The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is America’s conservation corps, whose members protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks and community green spaces in all 50 states. Amherst College maintains an extensive list of undergraduate summer research programs in neuroscience, biology, and biomedical sciences. Also contains links to the lists maintained by other schools.
National corps of outstanding and diverse recent college graduates who commit two years to teach in under-resourced urban and rural public schools. Corps members receive a full-time salary and benefits through the district in which they are teaching as well as loan deferral and education award for each of the two years.

The Tananbaum Family Leadership Program for Work and Development is a unique fellowship opportunity designed to provide internships, mentoring and enriching educational opportunities for Vassar juniors who demonstrate a commitment to professional and personal growth, achievement and success. Fellows are selected in the fall of their junior year, and receive personalized career coaching, mentoring, and internship search guidance over the course of the spring, the duration of their summer internship opportunity, and through senior year.
Fellows participate in enriching workshops on topics like: internship search skills, interview preparation, professional conduct, and networking.
Awards will range between $4000-$6000.

The University of Georgia’s Marine Education Center and Aquarium provides formal and informal educational programs, which focus on the ecology of Georgia’s estuaries, coastal islands, and offshore waters. It offers internships to recent graduates who would like some teaching experience in the marine realm and have not yet decided whether to go to graduate school or take a full-time permanent position. The internship is vigorous, with lots of exciting opportunities like teaching on pristine barrier islands, in the field or lab, in outreach programs, and by distance learning.

This UN program places “volunteers” (who are usually paid a stipend) with agencies and NGOs in their countries or others. A variety of the assignments are available including human rights ones.

United Planet is a non-profit organization that strives to create a world in which all people understand, respect, and support one another. United Planet’s Volunteer Abroad Quest program combines volunteering abroad, language learning, cultural activities and learning excursions. VIA is a private, non-profit, non-religious organization dedicated to increasing understanding between the United States and Asia through service and education. It’s Asia Programs have provided U.S. Residents with an opportunity to work and live within an Asian culture while meeting the needs of Asian host institutions. The organization currently offers long-term and summer programs in Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as two short-term spring programs and three longer summer programs for students focused on a variety of themes, including language and culture, service learning, and healthcare.

World Hunger Relief, Inc. is a Christian organization committed to the alleviation of hunger around the world. It trains individuals in holistic ministry that equips them to work with communities in developing sustainable farming techniques, educates those with an economic abundance on methods of conserving and sharing resources, and participates in local and international sustainable development programs. Interns work and study for one year on a 40-acre farm in central Texas, followed by an optional three-month experience in a developing country.

YMCA Camp Widjiwagan is a wilderness adventure program whose mission is to develop in young people respect for community and the environment through environmental education. In the summer, Widji provides wilderness trips for 12-18-year olds throughout North America and during the school year it collaborates with a variety of organizations to provide leadership development for teens. The program offers job positions for camp counselors, camp instructors, and office staff.
