CDO Favorite
There are over 1000 books and binders within the CDO, categorically separated to help your internship, job, or post-graduate search. Some of the resources are career specific, broken down into particular fields of interest, while others are more general career reference materials. There are domestic and international listings, with tips on interviewing, finding housing, researching prospective companies or colleges, and study guides for standardized graduate school tests. You are encouraged to make full use of the assistance provided by the counselors and CDO peer advisers.

The best source of information on workplace and corporate policies related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Includes information about non-discrimination policies, organizations with domestic partnership benefits, municipalities that have laws banning employment discrimination, and career articles. Search the WorkNet Employer Database for information about several hundred organizations’ policies, LGBT employee group contacts, and more. This site pays the most attention to transgender issues in the workplace.
Leadership for Change encourages an inside-out development process to enhance the way each participant views themselves, the Vassar Community, and the world beyond. Consisteing of a series of workshops, this cross-campus initiative strives to meet a variety of needs, including fostering leadership skills of emerging leaders, instilling current leaders with practical techniques, and encouraging advanced leaders to become effective change agents beyond Vassar’s walls. Participants will engage in a track-based series of workshops designed to enhance skill and promote personal development. The three tracks of this program represent the levels and perspectives of leadership development as expressed in the Social Change Model of Leadership: the individual (Emerging), the group (Student Organizations), and the community/society (Social Consciousness).
The Campus Life LGBTQ Center is the Campus Life Resource Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Communities and Social Justice Education. The Center hosts social and cultural programs, collaborates with student organizations, and provides leadership opportunities to enhance the campus life experiences of LGBTQ students – all while addressing greater issues of social justice and creating an inclusive and educational campus environment. Previously located at Blegen House, the LGBTQ Center has temporarily moved to CC 235 while Blegen House undergoes building code and ADA accessibility upgrades. As part of the Campus Life Office, the center works with all students to promote cultural pluralism and positive intergroup experiences. All are welcome here. The mission of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is to build the grassroots power of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. They do this by training activists, equipping state and local organizations with the skills needed to organize broad-based campaigns to defeat anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation, and building the organizational capacity of their movement.
