Amate House is a young adult volunteer program located in Chicago. Each year, 30+ college graduates and 10 undergraduates living at DePaul University devote a year to serving the poor of Chicago. These young adults live in community houses in the neighborhoods where they serve, spend more than forty hours a week performing tasks at financially strapped nonprofits, parishes and schools in the city, and participate in a formation program that encourages them to understand and explore the link between Christian faith and service.

Concern America has worked with 15 developing countries and supervises projects in the United States. Full Belly Farm is a 200-acre certified organic farm located in the beautiful Capay Valley of Northern California, an hour northwest of Sacramento. Loch Arthur is a working Community in South West Scotland which includes men and women with learning disabilities. There are nine houses in which altogether more than 70 people live, as well as a farm, a large garden, a creamery, a bakery, a woodworkshop, a weaving workshop and a farm shop. Raphael Garden is a fully functional biodynamic urban farm, located at the center of the Rudolf Steiner College campus. Rocky Mountain Youth Corps is part of a network of over 100 youth corps nationwide working to improve communities, the environment and the lives of youth and young adults by putting them to work on public lands and open spaces. The organization strives to meet the needs of the community of northwest Colorado by offering long term mentoring for middle school students and summer conservation corps participants. Participants, called corps members, work on crews to complete service projects for multiple city, state, federal and nonprofit agencies.

The School for Field Studies, the nation’s oldest and largest environmental study abroad program, combines hands-on environmental studies with scientific research to develop sustainable solutions to critical environmental problems. The school offers a variety of employment opportunities at its international field stations in Australia, Costa Rica, Kenya, Mexico, the Turks & Caicos Islands and Salem, MA, as well as internship positions. SCICON is the outdoor school of science and conservation operated by the Tulare County Office of Education. Each week approximately 200 sixth-grade students come to SCICON for 5 days to learn about science and conservation and to experience nature at its best. SCICON interns gains skills in outdoor science teaching, student management, organizing recreational activities, and program leadership and operation.

The Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College is a garden encompassing more than 300 acres and exhibiting over 4,000 kinds of ornamental plants. The arboretum offers summer or one-year curatorial internships to people interested in ornamental horticulture, as well as opportunities for volunteering.

One of the largest and most renowned regional theatres in the country, Seattle Repertory Theatre produces a mix of classic comedies, recent Broadway hits and cutting-edge new dramas in two theatre spaces. The Seattle Repertory Internship Program is a full-time commitment of at least 40 hours per week throughout the theater’s full season, which offers practical experience to bright, creative and reliable individuals with basic training and experience in theatre.

Slide Ranch is a non-profit teaching farm located at a historic coastal dairy perched above the ocean in the Marin. Slide Ranch staff operate the farm using a turn of the century farmhouse, old creamery and several outbuildings. Organic gardens, goats, sheep, chickens and ducks provide an ideal outdoor venue for teaching about healthy foods, healthy living and environmental awareness. Individuals can get involved in a 10 and a half-month teaching internship program or volunteer in the non-profit environmental education center.

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is America’s conservation corps, whose members protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks and community green spaces in all 50 states. SCA offers 3-12 month expense-paid conservation internships in over 50 disciplines throughout the US. Individuals can also join the Conservation Corps and spend 3-10 months working on critical environmental issues such as wildfire management and education, trail restoration and maintenance, environmental education, and invasive species eradication.

The University of Georgia’s Marine Education Center and Aquarium provides formal and informal educational programs, which focus on the ecology of Georgia’s estuaries, coastal islands, and offshore waters. It offers internships to recent graduates who would like some teaching experience in the marine realm and have not yet decided whether to go to graduate school or take a full-time permanent position. The internship is vigorous, with lots of exciting opportunities like teaching on pristine barrier islands, in the field or lab, in outreach programs, and by distance learning.

United Planet’s Volunteer Abroad Quest program combines volunteering abroad, language learning, cultural activities and learning excursions. All programs provide an incredibly fulfilling experience for volunteers and valuable support for local communities. Volunteers of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds are invited to join 1-52 week volunteer abroad programs in 50 countries worldwide.

It’s Asia Programs have provided U.S. Residents with an opportunity to work and live within an Asian culture while meeting the needs of Asian host institutions. The organization currently offers long-term and summer programs in Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as two short-term spring programs and three longer summer programs for students focused on a variety of themes, including language and culture, service learning, and healthcare.

World Hunger Relief, Inc. is a Christian organization committed to the alleviation of hunger around the world. It trains individuals in holistic ministry that equips them to work with communities in developing sustainable farming techniques, educates those with an economic abundance on methods of conserving and sharing resources, and participates in local and international sustainable development programs. Interns work and study for one year on a 40-acre farm in central Texas, followed by an optional three-month experience in a developing country.

YMCA Camp Widjiwagan is a wilderness adventure program whose mission is to develop in young people respect for community and the environment through environmental education. In the summer, Widji provides wilderness trips for 12-18-year olds throughout North America and during the school year it collaborates with a variety of organizations to provide leadership development for teens. The program offers job positions for camp counselors, camp instructors, and office staff.
