Are you wondering what the next step in your future planning will be? This workshop will guide you through several activities designed to help you to explore ways to try and answer this difficult question. We will explore where your interests and skills lie as well as how things like values and personality affect career choice. You will also learn how to use this information to help you explore major selection and future planning questions.

Learn all about finding a valuable summer opportunity. Find out what Vassar students did last summer, discover what it is you are really looking for, learn how to navigate the many resources (yes – even in your small hometown), gather information about summer housing and see a showcase of opportunities and resources in various fields.
Explore your attitudes about money and doing work for the common good. This session is a frank talk about money, non-profit/government salaries, and other forms of compensation. Come to learn about the realities of a non-profit/government salary (what is reasonable to expect and the kinds of salaries that non-profit/government employees earn), examine your attitudes about money/wealth/power, and think about your future financial decisions. The workshop will also include tools and information about personal finance, loan consolidation/cancellation/postponement, budgeting, and other practical matters. An Engaged Life presentation.

Interested in community work, activism, leadership or working for social change? Why so? This workshop is packed with tools that will help you articulate your beliefs, short-term goals, and lifelong commitments. In a group setting, take stock of your personal history, your priorities, and what your envisioned future is for you, your community, and the world we live in. Through discussion, you will hear from others and share experiences in trying to live a life of purpose. Some say that to enact real systemic change, you should pursue a career in politics. Hear directly from people who work in public policy and for the government. Panelists will talk about how they confront issues such as: working for an administration that does not support their worldview, public cynicism for the government, the notion that government is corrupt or ineffective, and how changes in political administrations or climate can affect their career.
